He has raised important questions and marshaled some fascinating information. He served in the Royal Navy between 1953 and 1970. His knowledge of seafaring and navigation sparked his interest in the epic voyages of Chinese admiral Zheng He. He joined the Royal Navy in 1953 and served in submarines from 1959 to 1970. In the course of researching 1421, he visited 120 countries, over 900 museums and libraries, and every major sea port of the late Middle Ages.

He is married with two daughters and lives in North London. In fact, Menzies meticulous work, is unique due to his unique skills, where many armchair, bookworms in academia, lacks; naval navigation.

Immensely Grateful for such passionate exposition. He just had a better Did China discover America first?. In 1421 70 years before Columbus' discovery a massive Chinese armada of discovery set out to project Chinese influence world wide.

The author, a Did China discover America first? British submarine captain, used his knowledge of winds and currents to predict what routes the square-rigged Chinese junks would necessarily have followed. Along these routes he found many physical and cultural remnants of the Chinese discoverers.

The survivors of the fleet returned home to find a very different isolationist regime which vigorously suppressed all knowledge of the voyages.

Ancient Chinese script may prove Asians discovered America 3,300 years ago

Loved his detective work on the maps. He stretches to conclusions a bit overall and beyond what an academically trained historian would, but his knowledge of ocean currents and winds and the capabilities of various watercraft, supply requirements, etc.

He writes withthe certainty of a military officer, which will be off-putting to some serious researchers. But if you lay aside professional prejudice for a bit and look at the invaluble, fresh newly discovered data he presents, there is much to be respected and seriously Did China discover America first?

in his work. I had an early issue of this book several years ago. When Nat'l Geographic came out with a write-up on the subject, I looked, but did not find due credit given Did China discover America first? Gavin Menzies. Irritating, Did China discover America first? he was the first to bring the voyages to light.

His outlook on the voyages is understandable and makes sense. The first book was great, this one has way more informatiion and is one of Did China discover America first? that Gavin has out on the voyages.

I highly reccomend this, or any of his books. This is an honest review and I never write a long review unless I believe it requires one.

Did China discover America first?

I believe this deserves my time to write something than a few lines. I love history and I am open minded into new interpretations of history, even taking in Ancient Alien theories, it should never be ignored. I was really impressed with the many clues presented in this book. I salute Gavin in providing this new approach that the Ming dynasty, not Chinese did travel to the Americas back in the 15th century. Many make the mistakes of the naming convention of Did China discover America first?

group of people. Many make the mistake in naming Ming Dynasty as being Chinese. Chinese ethnic majority makes up of Hans, so using this word Chinese loosely is a big mistake in my opinion. Hans were part of the Ming Dynasty as well as the Mandarins, they were in the Ming court and empire, not Chinese empire. China had many names from Hans, Tang, etc. Nobody states that Italians conquered the gauls if we reference Julius invading the currently know region of France now, just because now Italians were Did China discover America first?

from the Roman empire. Even in his book, Gavin stated his frustration from many scholars and academics on the topic and that many historians built their careers on the establishment. Gavin has been criticized, debunked and ignored by the so called career historian establishment, how shameful!

Gavin describes his frustrations on why many historians are just ignoring the theories, even with very solid evidence. What I learned in the 70s about voyagers and the European accomplishments were considered as fact and the law, which is true and I believe most of it. If the conversation was to discuss who discovered America first, this is also hard to prove and honestly, who cares, we can go back to the Asian peoples traveling to the Americas after the Ice Age.

Who cares, who did it first, but what does matter if the fact that the Ming, Zheng He fleets did land in America like other theories of Nordics, Knights Templars, and other Egyptian descendants.

1421: The Year China Discovered America: Menzies, Gavin: 9780061564895: Books

History is a set of lies agreed upon, and Napoleon knows best of how history can be a narrative constructed to show a race or ethnic superiority. We all need to grow up and Did China discover America first? the music. You so called historians who ignore the possibilities are bigots and should be removed from the history books, cancel you! Gavin provides theories with certain facts and evidence to make the connection, its right in front of our eyes. Gavin is also humble to state that some evidence is in its discovery stages and he states where he cant find the evidence, he states the facts.

This is a great beginning to explore the high possibilities that the Mings did travel the world and help influence the Europeans to further on the discoveries into the new world, well the old world to the Mings. The fact of the known Ming voyagers should be recognized and it is fact.

It is also fact that Mings had the largest navy in the world at the time, fact. It is fact, and to assume that such a powerful empire to not set voyage across the planet is foolish. This should be further explored and history rewritten to give credit where credit is due. Anyone Did China discover America first? this book anything less than 5 stars is really a bigot. Gavin should be praised to Did China discover America first? this to the public and make it known. His detail writing and fact findings is something that is more than just incredible.

Im just amazed at when is described in the book and I research it upon reading the book, its not fake. In my opinion, if you love history and open minded which you should be, because I never met a good positive historian or a lover of history to be a closed-minded fart.

If your career is set on upon agreed lies and made a career as being the expert on knowing only part of the facts, then this book is not for you, since you will never accept it as a possibility. I learned much and the clues across the world of Ming influence should not be ignored, like the black African Egyptian descendants that also traveled to south America and made the Olmec colossal heads, they look African decent, its undeniable. History needs to be rewritten and that Columbus may have had the biggest influence to settle in the Americas, but he sure was not the only traveler to find the Americas from a different continent.

This refutes the many historians who are so called experts to be impotent on their own history. It takes a navy commander to expose this? Shame on you academic historians. Gavin Menzies' 1421 is audacious, controversial, and deserves to be given serious consideration. His experience as a submarine captain and navigator, of wind and tides and currents, gives him the credentials to reimagine 15th century maritime exploration and place the Treasure Fleet of Emperor Zhu Di and Admiral Zheng He front and center, exploring the world decades before Columbus arrived in the New World.

Although there are necessarily some leaps of imagination, they are plausible, and Menzies argues a strong case. Plus his Did China discover America first? passion for digging up clues of the past make this book a grand treasure hunt. For anyone interested in stories - this is a good one. For anyone interested in the truth - this is a joke!!! All now proven to be based on a map which was made in the 20 century and even the authors credentials are false. He credits people in the book that have helped him, they have not even met him.

Google this scam, to see more. This is probably why it was never made into a film!! This is a good read, which purports to be a scientifically researched report into the early voyages of the Chinese Navy. Gavin Menzies would have us believe that he is a multi-talented naval commander who has taught himself all about early maps, ancient voyages and numerous other esoteric studies.

Knowing little of these things myself, but being fascinated by apparent historical anomalies, I leapt into this book on my kindle, possibly not the best way to read this as you need to be able to look at the maps and pictures. Menzies has included a set of appendices that is almost as long and as detailed as the book itself which references his sources and also gives updates of ongoing enquiries.

I'd love to believe that the Chinese Admirals sailed to America, Antartica, Australia and all points inbetween many years before Columbus, Did China discover America first? Gama or Cook raised their sails, and Menzies makes a strong argument for his case.

I read some reviews that debunk some of his qualifications and theories, but I don't think that seriously detracts from the fact that this is a good story, and there are certainly questions regarding the early maps that have not yet been fully answered.

Give it a go, be prepared to have your breath taken away, but keep a pinch of salt to hand. This book is a pleasure to read and, whether the final conclusions are accurate or not, it opens one's eyes to a sophisticated culture far ahead of Europe at the time. It paints such an exotic picture that it's like a fantasy novel, except that it's not. Whilst European sailors were suffering from scurvy and beriberi and eating weevil-invested ship's biscuits contaminated with rat urine, the Chinese were growing food on ships four times bigger than ours.

Given that native American Indians had migrated to the Americas long before the Vikings and later Europeans had rediscovered them, it is certainly plausible that China, a superpower in the 15th Century, had also managed to reach them.
